Two of our bands recently took part in the Music for Youth Rock and Pop festival at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. Here is student review from Danielle Abbia-Kwakye who sang in the two bands who participated.
“On Sunday 1st March we were invited to perform at the Music for youth festival, for the first time ever, in Shoreditch and it was such a privilege. The event was a massive celebration of youth music-making. It brought together a lot of young budding musicians from across the UK to perform in the spectacular event.
We got to hear different types of music that were showcased by the other bands, some of which were covers of well known songs and some original songs too. Overall the performances were great to watch and you could really see and feel the passion that each of the bands held within themselves as they played.
After watching and then experiencing the thrill of performing on the stage, we were then given feedback from two top music mentors who listened to each performance made that day. They gave us inspirational, constructive feedback and suggestions to help us make our group and the music we play even better, which was very helpful to us.
All in all, the day was amazing and if we could do it again, we certainly would”
Both bands received feedback from the adjudicators – here are a selection of their comments:
- ‘good feel and groove…the song has good structure and the arrangement shows maturity and sense of dynamic shape’
- ‘good energy and vibe – the lead vocal is very good, full of intent’
- ‘keep working on your own material, there is so much potential here’.
Well done to both bands! Check out their performances in the videos below
