Music trips and visits

This summer (2017) we have two residential trips taking place. Below you will find details of each of the trips, including dates and departure times, activities that will be taking place and the expectations of the students who take part.

West Cork Music Festival, Bantry, Ireland

Trip departs 7pm Thursday 29th June, returns 7am Tuesday 4th July 7am (times TBC)

IMG_0006The West Cork Music Festival is a prestigious event in the chamber music world, featuring some of the world’s best classical musicians. The festival itself runs for over a week – we will be visiting for the first weekend, taking in four professional concerts and taking part in rehearsal workshops. Students will also have the chance to explore the local area and take part in games and swimming.

We have 20 places for students who will be accompanied on the trip by Miss Chapman, Mr Start, Miss Bladon and one other member of staff. Students and staff will stay in self-catered accommodation at the Westlodge Hotel in Bantry. This year, we are adding a new twist… students who participate in the trip are expected to be part of their own chamber group – maybe a string quartet or flute trio – and will rehearse and prepare for a concert that will be given at both Lister and in Ireland. Students will be mentored by our quartet in residence the Behn Quartet, who have their own concert at the festival.

This will be the fourth time we have taken a group to this festival and we are looking forward to once more enjoying the stunning scenery and the even more stunning music! You can see photographs of previous visits by clicking here.

Students can apply for this visit by logging into the school website and completing this online form. Applications close on Monday 20th February

*Please note: students require a valid passport for this trip with a least six months remaining before the expiration date*

Radley College residential

Trip departs 7am Tuesday 11th July, returning 7pm Friday 14th July (times TBC)

MiSSTWe are delighted to be joining with staff and students from other schools supported by MiSST to offer this residential trip for students in Years 7 and 8. This course is intended for students who are quite new to their instruments but want to play in groups and ensembles. We will be running rehearsals and fun activities for students – including games and swimming – with the residential ending with a concert on the Thursday afternoon. This will be the third time we have participated in this trip – you can see photos from previous trips by clicking here.
